MINI BIOGRAFIA D’EN BIRI

En BIRI és d’Olot, de soca-rel, on hi va néixer l’any 65 del segle passat. Segons diu la seva dona és més tossut que una sabata, no en va fou criat en una sabateria, fet que demostra que l’entorn de creixença condiciona el caràcter de les persones. Per les inclemències imponderables de la vida des de fa un temps l’han adoptat a Sant Cugat. Ara compagina el garrotxinisme amb el vallèsnisme, però encara el seu accent el delata. No li digueu, però quan ve a Olot els caps de setmana, tot i que no ho vol, fa una mica el xaba. De fet, tal i com ho fa ara, mai s’hauria cregut que a Olot hi aniria de vacances.

De petit dibuixava per tot arreu, excepte a les parets de Sant Esteve, tot i que ho va intentar. Degut a aquesta fal·lera innata, els seus pares el van portar des ben petit a l’Escola Municipal de Dibuix d’Olot, on si va poder dibuixar a les parets. Al seu expedient acadèmic hi brillaven els excel·lents, sobretot en dibuix, en pretecnologia i en l’art de dibuixar tots els racons de llibres i llibretes. Anys més tard, l’afecció pel dibuix i per l’art el van portar a llicenciar-se en Belles Arts per la U.B. i a treballar a l’entorn de la conservació i restauració dels béns culturals, tot i que, quan els seus dos fills el deixen, intenta mantenir la seva vessant més artística de ninotaire, il·lustrador i dibuixant de còmics.

Iniciat en el Tio Vivo i el TBO de Coll i Blanco, aviat es va submergir en la impressionant obra d’Hergé, tot i que els seus ideals estètics segueixen, amb modèstia, a Schulz i els seus Peanuts, a Forges, a Larson i a Sempé. Amb un estil lineal i sintètic, el seu característic mon s’ha mogut en un pla sense perspectiva, dominat pel blanc i el negre, i on el seus personatges ens expliquen coses quotidianes, tan amb gags com amb paraules. Ha publicat durant 18 anys una tira còmica al setmanari La Comarca d’Olot, com encara ho fa per a la revista del Museu d’Art de Girona, així com col·laboracions puntuals en revistes comarcals. Ha il·lustrat diversos contes, entre ells un de la Mercè Canela pel MD’A de Girona i darrerament el de la història dels gegants de Sant Cugat. Ha dissenyat i il·lustrat de tot, des de cartells per festes fins a un numero de loteria. Des de muntatges amb còmics monumentals fins a una caixa de preservatius.

Tot plegat li ha permès mantenir la seva activitat artística i enriquir, només, el seu petit esperit creador. Amb la ironia del traç senzill intenta riure’s de la vida sense fer mal a ningú, tot i que a vegades li ha baixat algun clatellot. Fora de l’entorn garrotxí adopta el curiós pseudònim de Pere Rovira i Pons, i a vegades escriu coses.

All this has enabled him to maintain his artistic activity and enrich only, your little creative spirit.
